What is a play couch, like Figgy, made of? Well let us break it down for you! We put a lot of time, thought, and research into what would make for the best play couch. Through lots of testing, we've developed a luxury product that's designed to last years and years!
1. Foam
The foam component of a quality play couch is the most expensive piece. Sure, foam... that's expensive? Well, yes! And it's cost and quality depend on a few factors. At Figgy we use a propriatary FiggyFoam that is CertiPUR-US certified and is made in the USA. Sometimes the -US description makes people think that ALL CertiPUR-US foam is made in the USA, which isn't true. So check your source. Sometimes overseas products aren't everything that claim to be.
What is ILD?
A short form for the confusing term Indentation Load Deflection. In a nutshell, this means how firm the foam is. The lower the ILD, the softer the foam will be. The higher the ILD, the firmer the foam will be. Fun fact: each form manufacturer's foam "feel" varies! An 80ILD foam from one supplier may feel different than the same 80ILD foam from another supplier. At Figgy, we always source our foam from our supplier in North Carolina.
Foam Density?
Foam density is more closely related to the quality of the foam and it's weight. It does not have anything to do with the foams firmness. Foam density and a products quality go hand in hand! The density tells you the strength of the foam.
2. Covers
More exciting than foam, is the covers you selected! At Figgy, we produce covers in a variety of fabrics and colors. They are meant to be easy care and durable. We know your kids want to be able to REALLY play hard and you don't want clean up to be work.
We independent third-party test all of our products - your safety and your families safety matters. This is a test we elect to do through Intertek, one of the largest testing facilities across the world. They make sure that our suppliers are giving us what they say they are.
Waterproof Liners
Our waterproof liners are made from the same material that a mattress protector is made from. It prevents liquid from leaking onto your foam and ruining it. If you haven't tried to get liquid spills out of foam, let me tell you, it isn't fun. Water might not be a big deal, but if you are in your potty training era, I wish you luck. We do not add any flame retardants to our liners and our components are Greenguard Gold certified.
Outer Covers
We have several tiers of fabrics to choose from! They are Greenguard Gold and Oeko-Tex certified dyes. They range in levels of durability/texture but they are all high quality - you can't make a wrong choice! We change up our colors periodically to introduce new shades that are trend-right. We want our play couches to blend into the modern home and playroom. No need to hide the Figgy when guests come over.
3. Additional Features
Zipper Garage
A zipper garage is just what it sounds like... a garage for your zipper to hide in! It protects the zipper tab and prevents it from scratching things like your walls or floor!
Invisible Zipper
An invisible zipper means that the zipper teeth are INSIDE when it's zipped, leaving a nice smooth surface and won't scratch or get caught on things.
Fabric Covered Handles
Our handles are nylon straps reinforced with matching fabric. They blend in and create a stronger handle to hold onto.
